Walk2COP27 is a mass Climate Action engagement initiative in the run-up to COP27 with participants invited from all countries and across the key stakeholder groups of governments and cities, companies, NGOs, faith groups, students, and friends & family.

Our objectives are to facilitate learning, build solidarity and enable connections in the war against climate change.

Participants will walk, run, cycle or travel by wheelchair in teams, wherever they choose, over 45 days from 22/09 to 07/11; trees will be planted by the Jane Goodall Institute for distance travelled.

We will hold 12 “townhall” meetings in 12 countries from Scotland to Egypt, each providing local insight into the challenges that climate change presents in the country and the responses. These are hybrid or virtual events and participants will be encouraged to attend. All participants are also encouraged to lead, or to attend, a Clubhouse session on their climate topic of choice.

We will synthesise the views of participants in the final week to present to COP as a UNFCCC, Climate Champions, Race to Resilience partner.

Walk2COP27 builds on the experience and lessons learned during Walk2COP26: a Climate Action engagement initiative using the mechanism of a walk from London to Glasgow.

1. Prior to September, think about who you want to do this journey with (your team) and your targets in terms of both distance travelled and money raised if you are fundraising. Plan your mix of local activities, virtual attendance of the townhalls, and participation in Clubhouse. Make sure you have looked through the website and checked out our social media presence.

2. Sometime in the first 3 weeks of September register as an individual, join a team and set up team and individual fundraising pages. These can be used for details of your team and distance targets even if you don’t intend to fundraise. Download the app, test the communications with your team, start to fundraise.

3. From 22/09, the journey is live with the first townhall in Glasgow. Pursue your distance and fundraising goals, enter progress on the app or via the website, attend the townhalls and keep up with the social media postings to see how you are doing. Encourage your team. Reach out to others outside your organisation who are involved. Continue to invite others - our objectives depend in this reaching many.
